IMPERIAL COUNTY
Northwest of Mount Signal

We got a very late report that Eldon Caldwell and Joe Marshall saw a ZONE-TAILED HAWK (Buteo albonotatus) resting on a stack of baled hay, then in flight to another bale. This was along the Westside Main Canal where the large power lines cross the canal by Lyons Road. If anyone sees this bird again, please report it! From I 8, take Drew Rd. south, then Lyons west to the canal. ZONE-TAILED HAWK is a California Bird Records Committee review species. Documentation is important, send to David V. Blue, CBRC Secretary, 1013 Heritage Drive, Ridgecrest, CA 93555-5509; email: dblue@ridgecrest.ca.us.
